Fishing Report 8/29/2021

Henri dropped quite a bit of rain in our area and put many of our trips on local lakes and ponds at the beginning of the week. This was no problem for our clients, who hooked into some monster crappies and bluegills on topwater. The calm wind conditions that took place this week made it perfect for learning to cast a fly rod on our local lakes.

But alas, we are back on the river and it feels so good! The last 2 days the water levels have dropped enough to get the rafts on the river and the fishing has been great. Clients have caught and released numerous aggressive smallmouth these past few days. Today a client hooked into his first ever northern pike and it was on a fly rod! The fish fought incredibly hard, peeling out line down stream and nearly got hung up in a long jam. After a stellar fight the fish was netted, a grip and grin photo was taken and the apex river predator was safely released.

As we are getting cooler nights, the river water temperatures will start dropping. That means two things for us; we will soon be able to fish for trout and again and the Northern Pike are going to start feeding heavily to prepare for the winter! If you would like to get out and try to hook into one of these mean toothy critters on a fly rod this fall, let us know!!
