The bass fishing is fantastic right now! Lots of fish willing to hit poppers on the surface and chasing streamers. All of our trips for the rest of the summer will be focused on smallmouth or pike as the rivers have gotten a bit to warm to pressure the trout sections. But that is not a bad thing! The smallmouth that inhabit rivers are incredibly strong, willing to hit surface flies and often aerobatic, making them an absolute treat to chase with a fly rod.
Poppers seem to work better in the early morning and evening. If you are dedicated, you can toss poppers all day with decent results and some great sized fish. Small, flashy streamers work fantastically as well. Along with the smallmouth there are dace, rock bass, bluegills and even the occasional pike you can convince using these methods.
If you are looking to learn how to fly fish or maybe try targeting a different species than you are used to, give us a ring to book a trip!
